Cremation is a more environmentally-friendly option than a traditional funeral and burial. A traditional funeral typically requires embalming, which is not required (or desired) for cremation. Aside from the added cost, embalming means that ground water can become contaminated by the chemicals used in the embalming process.
By using a lightweight container for cremation it will reduce the carbon emissions compared to cremation in a full size coffin. In addition, cremation of a full size coffin will emit pollutants due to the stains, finishes and synthetic materials used in their construction.
